Timelapse over Granton Harbour (pt2)

// June 7th, 2009 // Edinburgh, Photography, Places, Projects

Since trying timelpase a while ago (see part 1), I’ve been looking for an opportunity to do a bigger, better, longer and more interesting version and things were all set for this weekend.

Sometimes however, things don’t quite go as planned….

I’ve been watching the weather, the tides and the number of boats for a good opportunity and this weekend looked ideal.

- Weather was supposed to be light cloud, scattered showers and windy – should make for decently active sky.

- Low tide to low tide ran 8am-ish to 8pm-ish and this fitted with the plan of having a full tide cycle in there.

- And as for the boats – most of them had made their way back into the harbour so it was quite busy and in the middle of the week, what looked like nearly twenty visitors turned up so I had high hopes for boating activity.

But no, hardly any movement from the boats at all so pretty disappointing (guess people just like to say they have a boat rather than actually sail the boat!), resulting in a dull video but I wasn’t going to take nearly 1500 frames without producing something and at least the clouds are ok!

(I also stuffed up on the timing and took one frame every 30 secs rather than every 20 secs so the movement is too fast, slowing the frame rate makes the video jumpier so another lesson learnt…!)

Tech setup almost identical to last time, the lens was Tokina 12-24 this time, set at 18mm, shots taken on app priority at f/11.

So here it is:
